Metal band saw blades

Where is the best place to purchase metal band saw blades. I had a whole bunch of Starrett blades that an old timer gave me way back & I'm finally coming to the end - I want a great quality blade, I'm cutting 2" square tubing, 2" angle & 2 -1/2" angle, wall thickness varies from 1/8" to 3/16".Thanks guys

Reply:Lenox makes good blades as well.  Look for things like bi-metal and made in USA on the label.  You can't go wrong.

Reply:Hey Petron,You didn't mention the width blade you are using. Several years ago I purchased (2) 250ft rolls of bulk bandsaw blade & got the HF blade welder to make my own. Quite inexpensive. I use 1/2" blade stock & that is the max the HF welder will weld. It works excellent. Reply:I see on the blade box it says carbon blades.  I just wondered if you have tried welding bi-metal blades on your blade welder.  I know in the HF description it says just for carbon blades.  Another question is could you compare the carbon blades vs. the bi-metal blades?Thanks, I was just curious.Wayne
Reply:Hey wayne55,No, I've never tried to weld the bi-metal blades with the HF welder as I have (2) spools of carbon blade stock. I use a vertical bandsaw with 62.5", 1/2"W blade & it will be quite a while before I use it all up. I cut a lot of aluminum & smaller pieces of 1/8 or < mild steel with excellent results. I've heard a fellow who works a tool & die shop say they did a bi-metal weld with their blade welder, but after welding & grinding the blade, they added a layer of silver-solder to both sides. He indicated it got them thru the day till they got a replacement. Never heard any more after that.I see the new HF welder doesn't have the blade grinder on it as mine does. Reply:Lenox bandsaw blades are so cheap and last so long.  Purchasing a machine to weld bandsaw blades, even if it is Harbor Freight cheap, seems like a waste of money.If you really want to save money, use the money you saved not buying the blade welder to rig up a soluble oil coolant system for your band saw blades.  Once you do that, 3 or 4 blades will probably last your lifetime as a non-production welder.
Reply:Last month I bought 6 Enco blades when they had free shipping.  The 62 1/2 X 1/2 inch blades were made by Morse.  They were about $6.50 each.They also listed Morse blades, but they were a lot higher.These were plain carbon blades.  I haven't noticed a great deal more life out of the bi-metal blades on my saw, but they are a great finder of hard metal.   The bi-metal teeth disappear just a fast as the carbon one.  :-(
