I usually run schedule 10 SS pipe. It comes in a big ol box in several pieces and I look at blueprints to shape it all together. With a level in one hand, its only applicable to use the MIG machine to tack each joint up in 4 places. When it comes time to TIG it all out, it runs nice and pretty until right before I approach a tack. The filler rod seems to ball up and doesn't act right for a moment. It does the same at the end of the tack. This results in four ugly, bulky spots in my weld. I grind the tacks down with a flap wheel and then brush it a little to help get out some of the slag. It still runs funny. How do you guys blend in your tacks?   Guy at work tells me to just keep on walking over them like theyre not even there. I seem to notice though when my filler rod balls up
Reply:Maybe crank up the heat on the TIG torch and try to tack with one hand? I have to be careful to avoid pulling and distortion though.
Reply:Stop and cut the tacks completely out.
Reply:I was going to say grind then down paper thin, but you might as well cut them out as you reach them. If you're concerned, you can always stop ahead of the tack, use a dab of filler to tack it again just after the mig tack, cut it out and weld it that way.
Reply:They don't get along at all. I broke my butt last night jigging up exhaust parts for a customer just to avoid that. We talked about this last year, but I don't believe we ever came to a scientific solution as to why. Im guessing the s6 mig wire most commonly used is floating up more impurities than the s2 tig filler, and they just spaz out when they meet each other. But I do know for sure they don't get along.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
