i need a scratch start tig set up for a stick welder on a upcoming rebuild on the farm, lots of thin sheet metal. i found this setup online, is it a good deal? i know nothing about tig i just know how the process workshttp://www.amazon.com/Complete-Packa...oled+tig+torch
Reply:not a bad deal I am more partial to weldcraft of CK worldwide tho but the price will also be higher if your stick welder is DC with that rig and a bottle of argon and flow meter and some filler will get you learningMiller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
Reply:whats a good flowmeter gonna run me? something afforadble? and tungsten? i can get filler pretty resonable from airgas

Reply:To get farther away from your power source just do what Tozzi and others do.  Use the stick stinger and work clamp leads.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ple&highlight=Just position your shielding tank as close as it needs to be to the power block for the hose from the regulator to reach.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:IMHO: A CK150 or 17 series torch is a better option when using an air cooled setup. Going with a 25 foot cable gives you a lot more options over a 12.5 foot cable too. As previously stated, clamping on to your stick leads is an easy way to setup quickly and gets you far away from the generator. As Wookie suggested, the HTP flowmeters are the best value for your dollar. Reply:You mentioned doing thin sheet metal work. Will your welder turn down the amps enough to not burn through?Have you thought about an electric drill, plenty of 1/8" bits and pop rivets?I know where we are, but somtimes the obvious path is not the best course of action.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A

Reply:it is a soil hopper for a flat filler. it has to be water tight to meet coded standards for soil contamination. i have a 100ft air hose laying around in the shop ill take that to them, being the leads on my welder are 100 ft long. hook that to the flowmenter so nothing has to come off the work trailer.

Reply:okay so ive purchased an 80 100% argon bottle from our local parts store. now i need the htp flowmeter, along with the kit on amazon, 2% redband thoriated 3/32 tungsten, and i was gonna get 1/16 filler wire. any recomendations on filler??
Reply:One option on the gas hose is to use the standard air hose with QD fittings and just have a short ones made up to connect to the tig torch and the flow meter. That way you can add or subtract hose as needed. Shouldn't have any problems as long as your fittings are good and don't leak..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
