I started building my table today and so far I'm pretty happy with the progress.  I still have to make the plates to mount the casters and cut the tubing for the leg support but I plan on welding it up tomorrow.  The top is going to be 28"x40"x3/8" with a 2 inch overhang all around.  The main frame is 2"x2"x1/8" and the leg supports are going to be 1.5"x1.5"x1/8" square tube.  I picked up the casters at Northern Tool today and they're 5" steel rollers.  I can't wait to get this project finished so I can start my mig cart.  I purchased a Northern Tool dry saw a couple of weeks ago and it cut through the 2x2 like it was butter, this was by far my best purchase so far.  Anyway, I'll post more pics tomorrow after I get it welded together. Reply:Looks like it's going to be a very useable table. Richey
Reply:Well I put everything together today and it looks alright.  I'm a newbie at best but I'm pretty happy with the results so far.  I still need to add a place for clamps and grinders but this is what I have so far. Attached Images
Reply:Looks great.     Just as a reminder if you want to add receiver tubing to it, Northern has them on sale. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...iver%2BTube%2B
Reply:Very similar to the table I'd like to make.  What do you suppose will be your final cost for all the materials?
Reply:nice table. don't forget the j hooks to hang the stinger and the rod across the legs to hang c clamps. also a 110v 4 plug box for handy power. but i'm sure you knew this already.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Looking good. What are you going to add to keep it in one place?

Reply:Thanks for the feedback.  When everything is said and done the cart will cost me about $215.  I'm not sure what to do about it rolling yet.  I have some heavy matting I used for my home gym so I could cut a couple of small pieces and put it my the wheels if need be.  I wanted wheels with brakes but they didn't have any that were all steel.
Reply:What are you using for the top?
Reply:The top is 28x40x3/8
Reply:I installed the top today and it turned out pretty good.  The picture makes it look like it has a crown but it's actually nice and flat.  I still have to cut the corners and round it off but the initial fit looks good.  I have a 3" overhand on the front and sides and did a 2" overhang on the back. Reply:DON'T cut the cornerzzz ! I'll make the ascz___umption it's nearly perfectly square ?. Just hit them a little with a grinder. That table can replace most of those gadgets you used to build it. Cool build.Last edited by Burpee; 12-21-2013 at 07:55 AM.Reason: Fhuh_king Nazi monitorBubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)
Reply:The top is flat because you were smart enough not to waste 400 feet of wire welding it on. A lot of people immediately screw their table up by going insane attaching the lid.Good engineering. A 3/4" weld is a 1/4" bolt, when done properly.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)
Reply:Thanks for the input.  I still have quite a bit to do but so far I'm happy with the results.  I should have lowered the leg bracing so the shelf was taller but I didn't think about it at the time.
Reply:I made a little more progress today.  I decided to round the corners and add handles under the table top. Attached Images
Reply:Very good job so far, it looks like it will give a perfect place to weld and cut on, if you weld you need a table at the  right height which I think you hit right on the head with yours, nice welds as well, it will last you a life time.  Built mine over thirty five years ago and still going strong, then built my work bench, it is about 400 lbs in weight and it is moveable as well.  Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:This really is exactly what I'd like to build for myself.  I just need to find some materials and have them cut.  Or maybe I should buy a chop saw.  Lol
Reply:Nice welding table, I like how clean and simple it is.
Reply:Thanks for the replies.  I still have a few things I'd like to add but so far it's been pretty fun for a first project.
Reply:Nice job on the table, looks like you have a garage shop like myself, however my garage has a lot more stuff in it, but I can still get both cars in!  I couldn't wait and bought a cheap welding table at Northern Tool and have been modifying it.  I added castors on one end so I have to lift the table to move it around.  I did this instead of four wheels with locking mechanisms.  I see you have steel wheels and no locks, how do you plan to keep it stationary when in use?  Wheel chock's of some type?Nice size and am envious of the large flat workspace!"All of this and some of that's the only way to skin the cat!"
Reply:you should add some round bar on an angle to hang your welding leads on
Reply:That's a good idea for keeping the table steady.   Originally Posted by BipestuffNice job on the table, looks like you have a garage shop like myself, however my garage has a lot more stuff in it, but I can still get both cars in! Wheel chock's of some type?Nice size and am envious of the large flat workspace!
Reply:Definitely a serious work! Great attention to details and finishing. Neat welds and perfectly even table.PlasmaCam CNC cutterLathe and Band SawClampsHe used standardized casters and was smart to bolt them in place, so it will be cheap and easy to replace just two of them with swivel casters that include foot brakes. That is a very decent and well executed table
Reply:Nice build -- love it!  I always see people bolting the top plate down -- why is this? Why not just tack in lots of places?Keep grinding!Regards, Patrick
