Hello, I ordered a 2015 POWERTIG 255EXT, and was wondering if i could throw their stock torch in the closet and buy a new flex-head one. can i buy any torch? do i need special adapters? do i have to only buy EVERLAST one's?Thanks folks!
Reply:Yes, Usaweld sells a very good torch for that machine. Call them. www.Usaweld.comJust a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024

Reply:It all depends on the size and cooling styleTh water cooled have 3 confections where as air cooled typically have 1.Air #9 & #17 are the same but #26 are a larger connectionesab 260 multimasternew tech 150 invertorlincoln 140 cheapo
Reply:If you plan on welding a lot above 150 amps, I would consider getting a water cooled. Torch setup. CK make really nice torches. You just need a standard Dinse 50 TIG plug, the male end gas line fitting can be ordered from Everlast. Wp 9 and 20 use same consumables or 17/18/26 models share theirs.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:The 255ext does come with a flex head, much nicer torch with "flex" cables. In fact it comes with a 9 and a 20 series. It's much better than our economy series. I'd suggest that you wait until you get the unit with the torches and make the judgement for yourself. You can always get one then, and you'll be familiar with what sizes you might want. In fact we distribute CK. The most popular CK torch we sell for that unit is the Flexloc 230.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:the usaweld torches are no better than the stock longevity/everlast torches IMHO, the main difference is the handle is skinnier. Just take off the "european" style handle and you can even cut off some excess rubber and make the stock torch skinnier than a water cooled torch. My modified one is about 1/2" diameter. I wrapped it with some self fusing silicon tape to make it very comfy. The thing that makes the USAweld kit better is the cable is much lighter than the longevity/everlast stock cable, making it easier to move. if you need mobility. I don't, almost all of my work in on a welding table. However I still found the USAweld cable annoyingly heavy due to it's length and would up hanging it from the ceiling. When you hang the torch cable from the ceiling the difference between the two becomes negligible. Basically if you do mostly bench top wedling it's not worth it IMHO.

Reply:everlast and Longevity do come with 26 air torch setup so it is heavy. Even if the cable was light as a feather I'd still hang it from the ceiling, as it is out of my way most of the time. My point is weight of the cable is not really that important if you hang it from ceiling anyways.

Reply:the machine the original poster is talking about comes wtih a 26 torch, I dont' post BS, please be more polite. if you think it is better, that is fine. I own one and dont' think it is and stated my reasoning, we're not in 7th grade, please. watch my last youtube video, it's right there for you to see.I'm sure the original poster will find out for himself if he likes it.And contrarary to your rants about me shocking myself It's not true. take a chill pill.
Reply:Funny how the rep selling them says they come with a 9 and 20 series torch."we're not in 7th grade" ...No WE aren't but you seem to be. Nobody in their right mind cuts the rubber insulation of a TIG torch because they're too cheap to buy a smaller torch, nobody!
Reply:sorry you are right. I saw a youtube video with a 26 series torch and thought it was stock, must of been special order. anyone with a logical mind that understands how a tig torch work would easily trim off the protruding ribbed insulation to make a torch smaller without any safety issues. If one doesnt' understand how it works then one shouldn't be messing with it. just removing the handle makes it about 1/3rd smaller.
Reply:anyways to the original poster if you are doing aluminum you will be using the water cooled torch anyways, just run a garden hose for a cheap solution or buy the $440 everlast water cooler.

Reply:OP should of ordered everything upgraded from everlast, I say try what it comes with and if it causes you discomfort then move to a small pen torch, if that causes discomfort then pull out a sharpie and draw a welding bead
Reply:Looking to upgrade my torch, can anyone compare the usaweld and CK? It's difficult to find the pros/cons on them without first hand experience it looks like.Lincoln PowerMIG 350mpEverlast PowerTIG 210EXT Hypertherm PowerMax45You merely adopted the iron, I was born in it, molded by it.

Reply:What I don't understand about a lot of water cooled torch advocates is that they also advocate an expensive cooler. Love the torch, the expensive cooler?? Not so much.I have a ck230 which is quite nice and has already taken a fair bit of abuse with 0 problems.I think the best project for an air cooled torch is to make a water cooler! Mine is made from a surplus shurflo pump, and a galvanized sheet metal 3-4 gallon tank I made. I weld lots of aluminum and it barely gets warm. No need to spend big $$$$$.The one thing I did do (Because I'm forgetful!) is make an interlock between my cooler and my power source...this way you cannot tig while forgetting to turn on the cooling supply (Doh!).There are advantages to air cooler for light jobs though. For me, portability is the big one. Not that a 330A-Bp is easy to move around!Chay
