I had some scrap aluminum laying around and decided on a design for a box........ cut the pieces to size on the bandsaw....... everything was cut correctly.......Tacked it up and made the mistake of not measuring again to ensure it was correct....... I just assumed it was since each individual piece was correct........ then the box must be correct too right.......Started welding it out.........Sanded it down......Started putting the pieces in and realized that one end was 1/16" too tight..........Scrapped the whole thing......This is the 1st time a tolerance of 1/16" was too loose.......Dang.......PICS......Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:You make plenty of these FEX, why not just make a jig out of scrap, clamp tack, remove and weld?I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Well this is my third box...... The first two were out if stainless...... And I used the sheer at school....... These dominoes are thinner so the box is different...... And it was a last minute decision......But...... A jig is absolutely in order...... I need to do that for sure.........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:I personally think a corner to corner fit up makes for a much better(stronger) weld. Noticed your fit up in first pic. Corner to corner looks better as well, Imo.

Reply:That's one of those little lines, ain't it ? Like WELDERMIKE suggested about a jig. What are the inside dimensions of the box ? Could you size the box so a piece of square tube and maybe some shims would work ? Or two pieces of angle iron tacked up into a square for the size ? Cut to length and clamp pieces to it.
Reply:Probably work best if you cut yourself an interior block the size you need that and use that for a jig to set your size in the future when you tack everything up. That way you know it will fit. Be sure to write the stock sizes on the jig so you know what size pieces it's used for later..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:if the box is a 1/16th too big couldn't you shave a 1/32nd off each end of the domino??i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Good ideas or the making of the jig....... I'll follow that advice..... It's makes good sense.......I think I'll save the box for the next set and instead of making them all 2"..... I'll make them 1 and 15/16ths........ Then I can use the box....... On the next set...... And use the new burnisher too.......Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:You should all take the route of the UK and use both, where short distances are in metric and long distances in miles. Fuel is sold in litres but beer in pints. Minced (ground) beef in grams but a steak in the pub in ounces. I think it was a strategy developed to confuse European immigrants Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
