Does anyone here hawk internet equipment auctions? I am addicted to a couple, but never pulled the trigger on any equipment. I like http://www.govliquidation.com/ and http://www.irsauctions.com/ [URL]. Anyone ever get a smoking deal from an internet auction besides Ebay?Just another clown trying to be cool
Reply:I hawk a couple, have gotten some deals, so far 3x esab migmaster 251's, claimed to be all missing parts/broken, one worked once plugged in, one needed a gun and one needed a main board, paid $20/ea for them + 10% buyers premium. Also got a haberle cold saw that needed to be shown some love, $280 (all told closer to $375 once I got a manual, new coolant pump check valves, sight glass and coolant). Beats haberles $5600 price tag for a new one.Today, going to pickup a hobart cyber-wave 300s I paid $211 for from another auction house.
Reply:There is a real good one I occasionally browse called ~ reliabletools ~ on ebay. He has 69,000+ oks with a near 99% approval, and I have purchased several larger things, like that keen Baldor grinder, and they were in excellent condition. He does not hype the gear. eBay has become the pits with tons of cheap Chinese junque, but he is a good exceptiuon to the rule. He is a bigtime guy on ebay, buying surplus LA and other businesses excess equipment. You never know what you'll find but it is all interesting. enjoy, PapaLionLincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
Reply:Living in Canada, I've watched the the Federal Government site for Crown Assets Surplus:http://gcsurplus.ca/mn-eng.cfm#topOfCADC.I haven't bought anything.I've monitored generators and welders and anyone can see what was sold for how much in the past year.Frankly, most the items sold were either junk looking (blown mother boards, missing parts, etc.) and sold accordingly or else if they looked reasonable, they sold for what I considered too much for me.I saw only 1 good looking deal located within a 2 hour drive from my home, a Canox C-250E AC/DC Arc welder that sold for $160.00 with no cables. .I assume this was a 250 amp AC and DC stick welder. For $160 and working = good deal.Rick V

Reply:I've made a couple of bids on govliquidation but others have always wanted the stuff a lot more than I did. Other interesting auctions I sometimes watch are http://www.govdeals.com/ (local governments)and http://www.go-dove.com/ (Industrial)I sometimes wish ebay would adopt the anti-sniper method of extending the auction to x minutes after the last bid like most of these others.Lincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools
