Reply:I haven't used that brand, but I have used and love a track torch.  You can achieve some beautiful cuts with one.
Reply:http://tanaka-sales.com/here is a link to the sales for it.

Reply:This is a little different than a typical track burner because it doesn't have a drive motor and appears to be all mechanical. I'm guessing that the gear box houses some sort of a speed governor. Maybe Offdiggin can tell us how the speed control works? The gear rack looks like it would be a pain; one stray piece of slag or dirt and torch travel would stall.I'm guessing it's not a portable, because the track would seem difficult to anchor. I guess I don't see any advantage over the type of track burner which rides directly on the work, or on common readily available angle.Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 03-19-2010 at 06:54 AM.
Reply:it is portable it has magnets on it. the set up is easy line up your cut and go.it has a clutch that is either on or off.
Reply:I used one for more than 20 years in a production shop. It's AMAZING how well it held up in such a harsh environment. It was still in operation after I was let go. It has some sort of ratcheting (escapement?) mechanism that causes the carriage to travel at a smooth even speed. If you want to move faster you simply pull harder on the torch. The finished cuts looked like motorized track torch cuts. Unfortunately, these things are REALLY PRICEY now. For occasional use, it's hard to justify the cost. If you plan to use it on a daily production basis, it might be worth considering.
