I'm thinking of building some cattle racks for my truck. I have some wood ones now, but they are heavy as heck--mostly because I built them out of 2-by lumber. I think I can get something lighter by building a metal frame and welding hog panel to it. Anyway, my wooden racks just drop down into the stake pockets on my truck bed. I wouldn't want to be sliding metal down in there though, because it seems like the metal-on-metal contact would pretty quickly rub off the paint and start the bed to rusting. One approach I've considered is to just use bolts to attach the metal wall to wooden members that drop down into the stake pockets--but that would hardly look right, now would it? Most examples I have seen of attaching ladder racks and such require drilling into the lip of the bed, but since this will be on and off, I don't want that. What's a good method for attaching something temporary like this to stake pockets?Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!
Reply:Buy building a stand alone unit that sits in the bed of the pick-up. Shut the tailgate to secure it. A mini jail cell for goats or pigs. I've got a couple you can have. Reply:If you can pay for some fuel I could put that in the 73 F250 and head out.  Originally Posted by joshuabardwellFunny. After I made the original post, I was thinking kind of along the same lines. I'd come get yours if you lived closer to Knoxville.

Reply:I'd use uprights that are small enough that you can skin them in some UHMC plastic 1/8"-1/4" thick  then problem solved. Minimal wear and tear on the truck and plenty of strength in the uprights. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Easiest way might be to just make short  wood stakes that sick out of your truck bed pockets about 6-8".  Them build your rack with upside down pockets on it that will just set down over the woods stakes.  Sent from my C811 4G using Tapatalk
Reply:You forgot about lacing it with hay twine. Durable, handsome and often times very cost effective! Reply:Whenever I leave the bar with 'cattle' or 'hogs' I just load them in the bed of my truck without consideration.....When I make it home, if any are left there, I herd them into the house, but by daylight I shoo them out. Those that spill out on the trip home are free game for the poachers that couldn't afford their drinks and followed me home. The goal is to not be seen in daylight with one in the bed of your truck or your house. It's a Rule
Reply:That sounds like fine advice, but how do you get the hogs into the bed? As piglets, it's easy, but by the time they're market weight, even me and my girlfriend together can't lift them in there, what with them wiggling and screaming and all.Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!

Reply:So you're saying the first step is to go to a bar and drive my truck into a ditch? I see the problem. Here I've been trying to load the hogs on a weekday, when I should be doing it on Sunday morning.Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!
