Last weekend I finally got a chance to "play" with my Sycnro-351. Had some scrap, sat down at my welding table, playing with the TIG. Hmmm, what's that smell? Something burning. Looked out from under the hood, white smoke, quite a lot. Couldn't find the source, shut everything down and camped out for a while, just organizing stuff, making sure there was no fire. Later I tried to use my Luxor lamp/magnifier that hangs off the back of the welding table. Hmm, no light, unplugged? Nope, plugged in, cable looks odd... OH CRAP! The cable looked like someone cut a spiral groove all along the length, apparently represented by the path of the ground conductor in the heavy round cord. Now to rewires and HOPE the starters are not fried. It's a nice 2 bulb rectangular light that sure is handy when you need to look at something small. AND, to find our why I didn't get a good ground from a piece I specifically ground clean and clamped with the nice heavy industrial grade ground clamp. Heavy stranded ground cable looks fine, so I guess I'll have to chase the circuit from end to end to find out where the problem is.I'll also be moving that lamp back to the work bench, may convert it to LED lights if the starters are burned...
