Hi all. I've welded quite a bit of stainless to mild before, but never a chrome plated piece of mild. Can this be done without special filler etc? 100% Ar?I'm welding studs onto a couple of chrome 'ears' for a seat mount on an old Harley. Thanks in advance,Chay
Reply:I would just make new ears and weld the studs to them since it's all gotta be re chromed anyway.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Yes it is done everyday with 309 filler....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:If you cut up some old parts laying around that were chromed already and are gonna recycle them into a new project, just make new. I give people the poopie face whenever they come to me with that. Send a pic of what you wanna do. It will help explain the project a little better. Reply:D & T the ears, lock tight the studs in place. No need to re chrome.
Reply:The chrome is actually hidden...not a cosmetic issue per se.I'll try the 309 and see what happens. Thanks allChay
Reply:This works for me....not saying its the right advice but I use whatever grade stainless Im welding to the mild steel.....309 would probably be the correct choice.....For seat brackets you could use just about anything to stick them together......Silicone bronze comes to mind Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock |
