What is the best welding brand?

Hi all! I'm Eliah and I am studying Industrial design. As a school project we are designing welding equipment for a brand of our choice. I'm wondering what the differens are between the various welding brands. I guess what i'm after is an answer to the vague question "which welding brand is the best?".What is the actual differnce between Lincoln, ESAB, Kemppi, Miller and Fronius? Who would choose what brand?I am forever grateful for all your oppinions and comments All the best,Eliah

Reply:Hopefully your school has enough welding equipment on hand to help you with your assignment. Your question has been asked many times over the years by students, welders and the manufacturers. Its right up there with asking which brand of cola is better! Coke or Pepsi Its a matter of taste or brand loyalty.With welding equipment is would be a consideration of your requirements, needs present & future, limitations as to power, size and cost and oh yeah even brand loyalty comes into play. What suits me might not suit you or the other guy. Reply:You trying to start a war or something??!!!It's all about who is close by, and who can service your equipment quickly and easily. For a shop in L.A., you can get ANYTHING serviced nearby. A shop in the hills of Kentucky is a different story. For that guy, he needs a machine his local supplier supports.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:Basically, Rojodiablo has said it best, use what you can get your hands on. If someone was to give you a Rolls Royce to drive for free, but you couldn't get parts for it or fix it yourself, it would be the most expensive "free" thing you ever received. Buy what your supplier will support. Reply:i believe the most sought after brands are miller and Lincoln! however there are sub brands such as century (lincoln) hobart (miller).Esab, longevity, thermal dynamics or arc!

Reply:Depends on the individual machine and user preference which is best. From a customer service and company attitude, Miller HANDS DOWN!!! They still have some not so great sales reps but generally their customer service is fantastic. Lincoln has fairly good customer service but their corporate attitude is one of, we're the best and nobody else knows how to make welding equipment. Esab doesn't keep much stock of parts and consumables and navigating their website is awful. Their customer service is hit and miss. I deal with all these companies on a daily basis.
