Hey im looking at a thermal arc 185 with some tig accesories its about 6 years old with little use, Im wondering whats a good price on this welder??? thanks, Matt
Reply:The new model is the 186 now right? Welders that are essentially new seem to go for essentially new prices minus a little discount to make it worth buying it. If a new 186 package is $1800 off cyberweld then I would think anything less than $1500 is a good price as long as it works 100%. Take a little more off for dings and dents. Don't buy it if everything doesn't function 100%. Warranty is a bargaining chip, so you can use that to further hammer the price. Don't forget to cost-out accessories, filler rod, extra tig torch parts, that stuff seems to add up quickly Also don't forget it's not a Miller and there is a bigger hit on non-USA made stuff on resale. At half price and full function it's a no brainer. I searched ebay and craigslist for a while and never came close to that.Last edited by bikesandcars; 12-18-2013 at 12:34 PM.

My only regret is that I did not get the Arc-master 300.
Reply:If I was in that area I would scoop it up ASAP. Quality machine. As far as I have heard the Japanese built Thermal Arc 185's are very reliable and functional. Where as the new 186's have junk foot control pedals from the factory.Local 83
Reply:Jump on that ASAP. That's a great price. The TSW were Jap made. Very durable reliable machines that are built better than the newer 186 versions. It only lacks the 5 program memory feature that the new one has. I have the newer 300 and never use the memory feature as every thing I weld tends to be different and it's fun and a learning experience to play with the parameters. Apparently, the arc focus is greater than Millers, so 150 Hz AC on that machine is equivalent to millers 200-250 HZ in terms of cone size. I had that machine and a Blue lightning Dynasty before I found my 300. It's every bit as good as a Dynasty, but less bells and whistles.
