popping in a torch

Today i was going to cut out some letters for a brand im making so I assembled my torch made sure to crack the cylinders for a second to make sure their is no debris that went fine, checked my torch hose everything is fine, then i sat my regulators about 7 psi for the acetylene and about 40psi for the oxygen I choose such a low setting because im cutting 1/8 plate and have a small torch well i turned on the acetylene used the striker and got the flame to where their was no black soot then added oxygen then i hear a popping noise so i shut the system down and was wondering what could it be? I'm thinking the tip is dirty because i noticed the flame didn't  come out in an even cone or my tip is lose can anyone help me out?
