Hello, I am a new member to the site and would like to share a project I just finished with you guys. This is my quick design of the plowI started with making the blade. I made the curve by cutting every inch and welding back together. The cutting edge is a 1/4" x 3" bar stockThe next part of the build was mounting to the mower. The holes are drilled into 1/4" plate which are welded to the top and bottom to ensure a tight fit. After the mount was made I had to focus on how to mount it to the plow.
Reply:Next I had to connect the plow blade to the mower mount.I then used the pivot part of the plow as a template to locate my other hole. Once the other holes were drilled for the pivot I had to put the Polly over the plow blade frame. That is my dad checking over my work in the picture. ATTACH]614071[/ATTACH]Then I welded an are off the mount to raise and lower the plow. Attached Images
Reply:EDIT CORRECTION, I just noticed the control arm on the side, you can ignore my comment.... That will come in handy, I noticed you have to get off the tractor to angle the blade. Here's a pic of what's on mine (may give you some ideas). See the half moon piece on the back of the blade, there is a pin that is released by a foot pedal then a hand control to push/pull. Lift/lower is a lever on the other side. If you want more pics, let me know.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Nice thoughtful plow build BUT The LT279 has a K62A transaxle which should NOT be used for ground contact implements as it will cause early failure of the transmission, slipping when it gets warm.Everlast PowerPro 256, Everlast W300 Cooler, Everlast Cart 250Millermatic 211, Spoolgun 100, Miller HD CartJackson W60 Truesight Digital Auto Darkening, Victor 315 Torch sitting on a Harper 830-86 cart
Reply:Thanks! I hope I didn't waste my time making it.
Reply:Thats a really good build! Nice work and good design. I might steal some of your ideas!
Reply:I'm fine with that! That's the whole reason of sharing it on here

Reply:This is most interesting on the snow plows.  I hope the post didn't jinx us here in Alabama.  On heck.  They just announced a winter storm watch here for Monday and Tuesday.   If we get snow I will have to use the front end loader on our Kubota Tractor.  Have any you you build a plow where one could remove the bucker on the front end loader and attach a plow????
Reply:I'll be out in the shop tomorrow and get a few more pics Insanerider. Richey, if you do not get snow I could send you some.....just trying to be helpful lol.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Here you go Insanerider, Br4denJ I hope these can give you some ideas for future mods and I'm not just hijacking your thread. Any questions, fire away.I'm not the creator of the pile of bird poop in the first pic. lolIf you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:No worries! Ha input on how to improve is good
Reply:Nice Build!Hope your tractor is one of the ones that is ground implement rated!Richey, just push snow with the bucket!Biggest problem here is the snow comes in multiple inches which means a L&G tractor isn't big enough to push.Consequently you see lots of snow blowers or Farm tractors pushing it.
Reply:I'm not really sure if it is bit john deere does sell a plow made for the lx279 so I can only imagine it is?
Reply:Br4denJ, please xcuse me for not seeing your pics/drawing the first time around. Nice work. I have a blade I started but never finished a mounting bracket. Im gonna try to borrow yours and SWells xamples. Thanks for sharing.SWells, this is funny; "I'm not the creator of the pile of bird poop in the first pic. lol".Last edited by Insaneride; 02-12-2014 at 09:31 AM.
Reply:Plow......Iuse a snow cannonDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I welded some bolts to the plow frame to add wights.  I have 15 pounds on there now but I can add up to 30.
Reply:Have you had a chance to put it to work yet?If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

Reply:I did but there was only about an inch. It worked well though
Reply:i made a cheap plow and to prevent the blade catching on the uneven and unpaved driveway I used a tire bolted to the bottom of the blade.   cut the sidewalls out and then cut the tread across, lay the tread flat against the plow and bolt it on.  won't catch as easily on anything and cause damage.   that idea came from a friend who has a similar concept plow to yours but built bigger for his jeep and he has had it for a few years now without issue.
