Hi allGot a load of black iron fittings i found laying around and was thinking of making something from them.so i saw something like this industrial looking lampUsing those old fashion light bulbs, it looks quite good.Something like this to buy in the UK is about £500 about $750 approx Plus i wanted to add about the finish, i want to give it the same finish as in the picture, it looks like a dark bronze patina, any ideas? Thanks guys

Reply:Needs a heavier base.An old flywheel or line shaft pulley would work.
Reply:COOL ! I like the gauges especially the compound vacuum one on top .

Reply:that kinda thing is big in the hipster areas here in the city. i see enough pipes, gauges and gears at work so don't really want to load up the house with it.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:I do like steampunk and would like to try my hand at it some day.  Have been collecting odds and ends in anticipation of doing a project some time in the future.  Haven't found any old gauges yet but then I haven't been trying all that hard either.I see a lot of these lamp projects with an old water meter body as a focal point in the riser.  I would imagine the light switch could be mounted under its cover.Sure would like to see anything you come up with Gerry.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Maybe you cuold use an old manhole cover as a base  instead of a cam gear or flywheel. It would loook more in line with the plumbing fittings

Reply:Originally Posted by silvertinaWould your version be a desk lamp or free standing on the floor? The pic you posted material used are threaded galvanized fittings just screwed on toghether. They're shinny when new. To get that patina look, I think you'd be using a flat oil or lacquer based stain.

Reply:Looks like something an old retired millwright would come up with.  Way back in my just married days, (remember those) I made a few gizmos like that for my lil woman. After she gave away about the 3rd one, I got the hint.  Took my 'creative me' and shoved his axx in the closet.
