New to welding ....

Hi there. Total newbie here in the DFW Texas area. I got a good friend and mentor that insisted I take a welding class instead of learning on my own, so I started an introduction to welding last fall at the Eastfield College, Mesquite, TX:http://www.eastfieldcollege.edu/Ced/Fall/WLDG.htmlHere are some photos of the classroom:Each studend gets his/her own welding area:Pretty much all of the equipment is Miller:First day we did all of the safety stuff, and the oxy/ace torch. We even had time to start cutting with it. That is not me, but that was one of my fellow students giving it a try:The class lasted 7 Saturdays, and we learned a little with the ace/oxy torch (cutting and welding), stick welding, MIG, and intro to TIG.  We even got to play with a plasma cutting gun I recently completed my first project - welding table - so I will be posting that shortly.Will

Reply:This was my very first time welding ever (so I have no frame of reference), but yes, I felt the welding shop/classroom was well equipped.  They also had plenty of steel for us to mess up (mean, "practice"!).  The fume extractors although noise, also worked very well.  All of the equipment was in excellent working condition, and the instruction was great - it was a great way to get started into welding Will
