On the radio swap show this morning a guy has a LN-25 for $500.00. He is pretty sure it has a gas valve and contacter built in. Also has the gun, no flow regulator. Has a volt meter but no voltage adjustment. I have not seen it yet. Sounds reasonable but also sounds stollen from a job. He says it's 3years old and perfect. Reply:No doubt it could be but what makes you say it sounds stolen from a job?Requesting a SN as Farmer2 suggests is a good test. That said, I have purchased machines with missing SNs when I've felt comfortable the unit isn't hot such as buying from another welder who is down-sizing due to financial reasons or recently upgraded his equipment.A "non-welder" guy just selling welding equipment with missing SNs or doesn't know what he has is automatically suspect.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:The guy said he bought it at an auction thinking he could do auto body work. He found out you needed another welder to power this feeder and all he has is a Lincoln AC buzz box. I worked him over and got it for $400.00. I already have a Miller Super S32P but this sounded like a good deal. The serial number is intact and the machine looks good except for mud spots and minor scratches. It has a long Tweco gun. How can I tell if it has a contacter or not. I will have to hook it up tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for the quick replies.Dan D Attached Images
Reply:Well if it wasn't stolen before it is now. Pull the spool of wire off and follow the power cable (yellow arrow) back inside the unit. If it goes right out the back - no contactor. If it has a contactor, it'll be obvious.Wouldn't have been the best tool for the job but if the guy's unit was the AC/DC version of the buzz box, that LN-25 would have run off it. Reply:Took the spool out and removed a cover. It has the contractor. I assume it also has the gas valve because there is a purge button on the back by the inlet fitting. Thanks for the help guys. Dan D.
Reply:Good deal.Your full purchase price is about what the contactor and gas valve options run. MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base! |
