Reply:I make a lot of bases and frames for a couple of folk who put wood on them. I don't sell the finished product. It works for me if they bring several of the same design. Ones and twos can be annoying, but I get paid. Cleaning and finishing are major considerations. I find that anything that is to look natural or industrial take more work to finish than just cleaning and painting.
Reply:Like tapwelder said. Part of the reason I don't use "scrap" is the labour it takes to find the stuff. It's a lot of time driving around to yards looking for bits. Plus storing them for god knows how long until you get that "right" project can be a pain. Plus your capitol is tied up in the stuff. Cleaning can be a time hole too, and messy and toxic. Having said that, guys like Ironheart are fortunate to live near a big supply of stuff and it's likely at a better price than we'd get here, and his over all cost are likely less than in N. Am.
