Hi guys,It's been about 5 years since I posted. I've recently been bitten by the welding bug and have built some furniture and fixtures for the house and decided to retire my 20 year old woodworking bench with a new steel bench for welding and fabrication. I've been a woodworker for over 20 years and I'm having a blast with steel now. Here's some pictures of the bench I just finished which is pretty basic, nothing fancy. The frame's made from 3x2 11 ga tubing and the top is 1/2" plate 76x48. It's got 1000 lb steel casters and screw down feet for when I don't want it to move. I weld with a MIG Hobart 187 and have a plasma for cutting sheet when needed.Jigging up the frame with some 90 degree fixtures:Top of frame tacked:Jigging up one of the legs with two 90 degree fixtures:Casters dry fit, 1/2 plate for mounts:Completed frame on casters:I'll continue the build in the next post...
Reply:Here's some more pictures...Placing the frame for welding to the top:Tilting the table off the trailer onto it's end:And the final product:Another view:The bottom shelf is 11 ga sheet. The top has only 6 1 inch stiches to hold it down. It had a crown of about 1/4 inch in the trailer and then I added blocking at the corners which helped reduce the crown and when the frame was put in place the plate leveled out. Guess I got lucky, it's only about 1/32" out of level from end to end and pretty much flat side to side. My welding is not that great but I'm learning and getting better as I go. Forums like this help a lot. It's interesting to see what others are working on and listen to their experiences. Hope you like the pics. I'm also going to attach some receiver tubing under the table for a couple of vises I have. Thanks!Jeff
Reply:That's a nice looking table, should last for years. One thing I would change is I would round the corners of the top so they don't cut or stab you when you accidentally bump into one.
Reply:That's a real nice table!!!! Im building one right now as well and I might steal a few ideas from you... Thanks for posting...

Gotta cut a 45* on them corners one of these days. You said that was the final product, but I knew that wasn't the case. I don't see the receiver tubing on it, or the clamp hanging rods, or the extra electrical outlets, or the drink holders, or the places to hang grinders, or the swing out stool, or the hoosier pole mount, or the under table tool box mount, or the, the, the......? That's just the basic rudimentary table, now you just need to complete it.
Reply:Nice work! I hope you didnt have to unload that from the trailer yourself!Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler
Reply:Thanks for the comments guys. @Bistineau: couldn't have said it better, it's a work in progress!@Robert: we had 4 guys on hand. It weighed about 750 coming out of the trailer but was manageable. Can't wait to mod it now :-)
Reply:Looks like a nicely strong built table!
Reply:Goodness! .5" plate on top? Thats awfully heavy and spendy! Whew! I'd have gone with .125, myself, but then, I am cheap! :PLooks very good, and will give decades of service!

Reply:Nice bench Jeff. I can relate to your move to metal. I am a third generation cabinetmaker but I have caught the welding bug bad. Lincoln 180 MigLincoln 225 TigHypertherm 65My Welding Table BuildVideo describing the Table
