When I went to check the fluids on my brandy-new (2011) tractor, the handle for the brush guard came off in my hand.It had always been hard to move. I found the shaft that the handle is supposed to rotate on was seized into the handle. Both of the cotter pins holding the locking pins were unserviceable as well.Took all of the pieces into the shop and cleaned them up.The shaft and the handle's collar had to be cleaned and re-sized.Until they fit together real nice and the shaft was ready for welding:The brush guard before I cleaned it for welding:No wonder the thing failed, the original lousy weld (only welded from 9:00 to 3:00) was 2/3 ground off before the powder coat was applied!Aw crap, I didn't take a picture after I cleaned it, but before I welded it. You do believe I cleaned both parts before I tried to weld them, don't you?All put back together:And works great! After the last picture was taken, I greased everything and put some primer on the weld. It'll get some flat black paint tomorrow.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A
Reply:Dont that just piss you off.  More or less brand new equipment and falling apart. Good fix. If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish
Reply:Nice repair. Better than factory.
Reply:I don't mean to be a buzzkill..., but isn't there supposed to be a torsion spring on that assembly? It is there to keep the handle from vibrating open. Nice repair, though. I have an '05 NH compact like that as well. Sure is a handy little bugger.
