I had a question about this plasma cutter I want to get. The recommended cut is a 1/4 inch, and the maximum is 5/8. Because the recommended cut is a 1/4 inch will it be able to cut good on a 1/8 inch plate also. I just would like a plasma cutter with some power to cut 5/8 plate. But I would like to cut a 1/8 inch plate also. I just didnt know if the " recommended cut " is the minimal I can cut with this plasma cutter. Thankshttp://store.cyberweld.com/thdyplcucu39.html
Reply:The Cutmaster39 will cut down to the thinnest gauge metals with no problems, on 5/8" it will be very, very slow, but will be able to get through. Don't plan on cutting any long cuts on 5/8" as you will exceed the duty cycle rather quickly. Take a look at the equivalent powered unit from Hypertherm, the Powermax30. It has essentially the same capacity, is made in the USA by the largest producer of plasma cutting equipment, a company that is employee owned (Thermal imports many of its systems and torches, and is going through an aquisition from another investment group)You can find info on the Powermax30 at this link:   https://www.hypertherm.com/en/Produc...powermax30.jspJim
Reply:So would going to Hypertherm would be the better deal? Just would like to get a good plasma cutter and by the way it will be my first. Thanks
Reply:Well, to be perfectly honest I am a bit biased toward Hypertherm as I work for the company, however our products are known as the best from a reliability, performanceand service/support point of view, and the Made in USA part is a bonus!  If you search Powermax30 on this site you will see there are a lot a lot of happy users with Hypertherm plasma systems.Jim Colt
Reply:Go the Hypertherm.  You will be much happpier in the end.  It may be your first plasma, but if you had the Hypertherm, you would not need another for some time if at all.
Reply:I've got a 39 that I cut mostly 1/4" Cast aluminum . For all intensive purposes the T-dyne 52 is the way to go just for the extremely reliable torch. long life consumables and a longer warranty.
Reply:I'd say if you are going to cut 5/8" plate, you are gonna need a bigger plasma cutter.  Just because it says it will cut 5/8" , doesn't mean it will do a good job, or very fast.ars sine scientia nihil est
Reply:Zora is right, however if you need to occasionally zip off a 5/8" bolt, or a short cut on some 5/8" material...these systems will work.Jim
Reply:thank you. Hypertherm Powermax 30 it is. I wont be cutting 5/8s alll the time. But it is good to know that  it will cut when I come across the size occasionally. Found a good deal on Harris welding website. 1075.00. Free shippping too. Thanks again. I had to get it today!!!http://www.harrisweldingsupplies.com...tem088003.aspx
Reply:Thats a good price.....you won't regret buying the Powermax30.Jim
