Miller XMT 300 cc/tig

Hey ladies and gents, I am wondering if I might get a couple of opinions on what this welder is worth.  It's a 1995 Miller XMT 300 CC/TIG Invertig/Stick machine capable of running 440 or 560, either single phase or three phase including flow meter, hose and torch.  My question is whether it will run on standard 220amp service at my house and what the machine might be worth?  The guy is asking $750 CAD and I am wondering if it is worth it?  I'm just out of school and am looking for a machine to practice at home with both tig and stick.  Please if you have any insight at all I would greatly appreciate it as I'm still green and have no idea what the machine is worth...Thanks in advance for all your help!Marty
Reply:It will run on 220 but you need a good size breaker, probably atleast 50amps if you really want to run the machine on some heavy plate. Steve can probably tell you 100% if this machine will work or not. Form talking to him in the past he's warned me about some of these machines that may not work at my place. The manual does look like it may be 220v compatible, but I would not risk it unless you get a definitive answer from him.martinhowe you do understand this is a stick/ tig only machine and you can not easily run mig from it right? Standard feeders will not work, and VS CC/CV feeders will only run on large wire FC in flat and horizontal decent. Reply:Damn, I thought for sure I clicked the XMT 300, oh well, eyes are faster then my fingers I guess. The good news is I looked at the correct manual posted by DSW and it appears it will work on 230 per page 1 of the manual (page 7 of the total document)If you cannot convince them, confuse them.         Harry S Truman
Reply:Just out of curiosity then, why does the manual state 230V single phase input it require 50.8A? I'm just looking at the manual and thats what I see, am I missing something? Reply:Wow, thanks guys.  It is infact the 440/560 volt machine and the owner has replied to advise it will not run on 220 as 7a749 suspected.  Sucks for me but I guess I'll just keep my eyes peeled.  We live kind of in the middle of nowhere so I might have to break down, get a loan and buy a new one.  Thanks for all the awesome help guys!

Reply:thanks for additional input guys, I sure appreciate it.  I'm most specifically looking for tig but am cert'd for stick too so being able to do both on a machine would be really valuable.  I'll keep my eyes posted in the local classifieds but there doesn't seem to be much that comes up here (i'm in a new area).  I am assuming given the weight of alot of machines (other than really small 100-200amp machines; are they worth looking into for just doing 1/4" and under stuff) that shipping them cross country or up from the states is cost prohibitive?

That's always a good thing to keep in mind because a lot people don't know that.I have never seen a 304 VS only with no remote. No such animal according to my experience.I have seen the 350 VS tho.
