Not mine, from another forumWelding a long pintle hitchhttp://www.benzworld.org/forums/unim...extension.htmlHis procedureBeveled all 4 pieces then welded it with mig an Stargon gas. I would weld an let cool-- etc etc over a 5 day span
Reply:very bad idea. better lawyer up
Reply:I could weld a reinforcement bridge from end to end using 1/2 " by maybe 3-4" but it will never be loaded maxed and only pulled on hi-way. Never off camber stuff. When I ground/beveled the ends, the Sparks that came off both pieces showed higher carbon content. The mig welds should be fine. I could have used E7018 rod but mig is much easier an cleaner. I will post some pics this weekend. Am at school today.

Reply:I would have never done that in a million years! I would go this route first. I built this hitch years ago for a friend. So he can pull his horse trailer with his camper in the bed. Reply:I can hear it now "I can't believe that thing broke off so easily, I welded it for 5 days!".GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
