I was at the dreaded Harbor Freight last weekend picking up some of them aluminum bar clamps because they looked perfect for a torch/plasma guide. Anyway, they always have the returns up front by the registers and I saw this little press sitting therewww.harborfreight.com/6-ton-a-frame-bench-shop-press-1666.html#.UyAkOjzFLtIThe problem is that it did not look anything like the new ones Even though I did not have the room for it I have needed a small one in the past so for $38 I couldn't leave it sitting there.Apparently someone did a poor assembly and proceeded to use it for something it probably was not meant for. They must have thought you needed to press the parts together if they don't fit. I plan on replacing the vertical angles and welding them together this time. The ram is kind of small so that will also be replaced with a piece of tool steel and machined bushings instead of the 2 little pieces of flat bar to keep it straight. Hopefully they did not screw up the bottle jack too. This is going to be a spare time project but when I'm done it will almost be completely rebuilt. I mainly want to make a small press brake for it and some new press plates out of some 1" I have laying around.More pics to come as the rebuild begins.BTW if anybody has any shop built press attachments please post them.
