As we all know the only thing better than buying new tools is making them. This project is an aluminum mail box that will be powder coated. What I needed was a bender to bend 1/8" and 3/16" material. I have many pieces to do and so I wanted a tool to do it. The main body of the box is fifteen inches long but I made the bender only capable of 8 1/4" material.A couple of caveats here. The wood on the welding bed is appropriate. It's Brazillian teak, won't float, sinks like a rock, and the common name for it is "ironwood".I know the tail light is missing, no big thing, unless of course you judge books by their covers and that means you probably only read comics. The piins are schedule forty 1" steel pipe (1 3/8" o.d.) I put 1 1/4" schedule forty aluminum pipe sleeves over that to keep from marking the aluminum when I do my stuff. The material is aluminum but it was under some steel stuff out in the yard, the rust will wash off.If you've never needed a tool and thought about making it I suggest trying. It's one of the the reasons we do what we do. We get to have the best of the twofer world. We not only get to make things, we get to make things for making things. Attached Imageslife is good
