I just bought this welder used but less than a year old and after a few short welds it cuts out the wire feed.the fan runs but no weld. Its says that the welder uses .035 flux core wire but .025 was in it when I got it,could this be the trouble? The welder isnt hot(air flow is cool)plus its winter here and the air is cold while using it.I know of 2 other welders of the same model and they have no troubles welding for much longer periods and have never cut out.Should I send it in for repairs?

Reply:your right about the .025 its .030(my mistake). Its a new tip and the wire is perfectly clean.Tension on the roller seems good and the welds are fine just i cant get a very long time out of it ,and Im not talking steady bead.short 1 inch beads and after about 20 or so it craps out.I just finished putting a cutting edge on my plow(6'10")doing the 1 inch bead 2 inchs apart and when I get about a foot from the end it quits. The thing isnt hot as the airflow is cool coming from it and the outside temps are like -4C.Its just that my 2 brothers each has the excact welder and theirs never cut out that is why I purchased this model as they had good experiences with theirs but of course I get the bad 1.
Reply:etuke,   there a possibility youre having an input voltage problem perhaps causing voltage loss?  how far of an extension cord and what size?IF it Catches...Let it Burn

Reply:well my brother used the welder for the weekend and did much more than I did and didnt have any trouble with it.So I think maybe I have a voltage drop problem.I have installed a new outlet from the panel on a 20amp breaker using #12 wire plus I have a 10' extension cord using #10 wire, now when I try it we will see if thats the trouble, well post back.
Reply:sorry etuke for not responding sooner, but yeah sounds to me like there is a wiring problem with that particular line.  I dont know a lot about electricity.  I have family that are electricians so I leave these thigns to them.  But aside from hiring an electrican, you might first consider checking the voltage at the line.  Then call the power company and ask them what line voltage you should be getting.  It needs to be minijum 115 volts.  IF its not they need to come out and fix it.  I dont know what other considerations an electrican would give to this.  awright  seems very knowledgable about electrical issues.  Might PM him asking for further info if this doesnt get you desired results   as always,  good luckIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:the plug I was using is just the plug in the hallway and I dunno how far the wire runs from the panel plus its only #14 wire and there's other things on the circuit all ran on a 15 amp breaker.I havent had a chance to try it yet but I got my fingers crossed.
Reply:all works well on the new 20 amp breaker, voltage drop must have been the problem
Reply:Thanks for getting back. Responses to problems found help add to the info base around here.
