I have to cut some welded nuts off in the upper rear shock mounts its a very tiny spot. But i can get a dremel in to cut 3/4 of the way through the bolt and hammer it the rest of the way off.I got through 2 bolts last night with mine shut it down to change blades and it wont come back on.Damn it.So i borrow my brother in laws today. get through 1 hammer it off cut it on to start the LAST BOLT YEAH!~ and the bastard wont come on it.*SIGH*neigther of the Brushes will come out of mine i got 1 brush out of his but i cant change it.Are these things that freaking fragile?
Reply:I use air "whizbombs"cut off stuff..Dremels are for "Light Duty" but I can't see why 2 have failed so fast.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Don't bog it by mashing it down harder on the piece you're working on just to get through it faster.  You'll kill it...as you're experiencing.I've used a Dremel a lot lately to cut off metal things, and I've used it the last few years regularly on leather and wood and I've yet to kill mine.  Let the disc do the work.Lincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand
Reply:best way to have them live is to hold it right where the vents are... when it gets too hot to hold then stop & let it rest... grabbing it lower because it's too hot to hold & then keep working it & it'll pop... if you hold it by the vents so you can monitor the temp it'll last a long time... dremel cutting heavier steel takes a lot of patiencemiller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:Disassembled the brother in laws. One of the brushes was seized i had to beat it out destroying it but i should be able to save the unit just need to hit home depot and get some more brushes havent dis assembled mine yet.
Reply:While it's apart check the wires from the brushes to the stator coils. That's a common failure point when any universal motor gets overloaded and it's usually not too hard to fix with a little solder.Lincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools

Reply:My dremel (both the cordless multi-speed and the old school corded single speed) died the same way.  I replaced them both with one of these:[ame]http://www.amazon.com/JET-JSM-516N-000-Micro-Grinder/dp/B000XA8IJM[/ame]It actually works, doesn't break like my dremel did, takes the same bits and it's thinner so it's easier to get into tight spaces.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:Hey soco,A Dremel is a superb unit & I have been using mine(4) since '70 & only had (1) die on me after 10yrs & the company replaced it without a hiccup. They are for light work & not designed for the kind of application you are doing. Your best bet is a Foredom unit with flex-shaft, much more torque, or a small air die grinder such as the HF unit I use with great results. Here's the site for Foredom & pic of the HF unit. Try one of these....you'll like them.Dennyhttp://www.foredom.net/ Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:you know, dremel does make a heavy duty tool like that, I have 2 of them & they don't burn out like the tiny ones... it's the only dremel I use any more. I cut steel with it all the time, with a carbide bit I can make slots in frames & stuff... the foot pedal is very useful to control speed on all kinds of motors too, looks like this... Reply:that air one does look cool, gotta get me one of those but the dremel I pictured above is great for use where you have no compressed air...miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:I literally saved a company 100's of thousands of bucks with a dremel, as no other tool could do the job of clean cutting some brittle plastic. On my own , I went out bought one, did some R + D and began using them in our production. My ungreatful boss who never even heard of a dremel,  would grab it out of my hands about every week or so and try it out. Every time he over loaded it and burnt it up. Hand it back and say "these damn things don't work".. as if any system before did, and for some reason decades later they are still using my "unworking idea"funny , that boss is gone, I am gone.. (thanks Boss Tom !! Now,  I make about ten times what you do) and my non-working system still works for that company.Dremels can easily burn up if over loaded. know their limitations.. they are also excellent tools for alot of applications...After you burn a few up you will learn what not to do..Don't sell them short.. they saved this company.. made my job a snap.. and showed me how dumb a know it all boss can be...Did I mention they burn up real easy....
Reply:yeah, again, I found best is to keep a finger on those vents... when it gets hot air expelling from the vents put it down & rest... like you said, a dremel can do a whole lot if you work with it, not against it ...miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....

Reply:I never knew dremels were so cheap, I just looked up the prices. 1 of my die grinder bits cost what an entire dremel does...Like I said my wife loves hers. You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Albert Einstein
Reply:I have had my dremel for about 6 years now and have used it to sharpen mower blades, cut off bolts, sand and grind never had a moments trouble with it. Maybe they went to cheaper internals. I know when I bought mine it was about $80.00 for the 5 speed one with the kit.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:foredoms got power but if ya dont wanna pay that price check out wecheer http://www.chippingaway.com/WoodCarv...otorStyles.htm  i got one for wood carving  that sucker has some balls and has forward and reverse with a foot pedal 350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you offCheaper yet:http://www.harborfreight.com/flexibl...ver-40432.htmlI got mine from Homier several years ago for $20. The handpiece would get warm like in some of the HF reviews. I replaced the handpiece bearings with some inline skate bearings and the problem was gone. Also the Homier foot pedal was junk.  I use a Harbor Freight router speed controller on it now.Lincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools
Reply:I've got the HF micro air die grinder too.  Using it reminds me of being in a dentist's office.Denny's post reminded me I wanted to get some different carbide burrs for it.  The only one I have that fits it is a 1/8" rounded/balled ended one that I've had for many years, and used a ton.  Its getting chipped up, but it still cuts.  Somewhere along the line I picked up a "rotozip" attachment for it, which I've found works really great on the odd drywall project.  (Very dusty though.)Thanks all for the tips on how to not burn up Dremel tools, guys.  Before I got the micro air die grinder (and well also my 1/4" air die grinder also), I went through TWO dremel XPR's.  They were new, but no replacement brushes were available at the time.  I wonder if replacement brushes are available now.  I might still have one of those burned up dremels XPR's, and wouldn't mind reviving it.
