The drill press at work needs one of its handles/arms/levers welded back on.  They normally just screw into the cast iron part but the threaded hole is all flogged out.  I don't have any cast iron welding gear, but I think I have like a 312-16 stick rod.  Will this be good enough to hold it on.  It wobbles like a jelly fish at the moment, so if I could get a bit of weld to stick and just hold it in place it should be good enough. We have a tig, but I still think I would need a special filler to joint the mild steel and cast iron?  I have standard 316L rods for the tig only.  Seem to think that there is a dissimilar metals rod you can use to join metal that you don't know what it is.  I think it is similar to the 312-16 that I think I have.  Maybe if I was to get rid off the flux off the stick electrode and then tig weld it using that stick electrode as the filler?

Reply:What they said if not maby jb weld or something similar then you would not have to weld it.
Reply:Helicoils are easy to try first. Or braze it, that would be my first choice. Failing that, JB weld. Not worth trying to weld if you don't have the right gear. You can use the tig to braze it, or oxy/fuel torch.
