I have a couple of 10" aluminum "H" beams which are near eight feet long and the top and bottom flanges are about six inches wide being about 3/4" thick. These were part of a shipping and hoisting cradle for a job I was involved with several years ago and I couldn't scrap them thinking they'd come in use sometime. Trouble is, that job was in 1993 and they are still sitting in my shop holding up a trailer deck load of white oak for one of my trailers.Thinking I could send them down a mill and slab them into an "[" type shape, then round over the edges to make a couple front bumpers for my trucks but other than that; nada. The original thought for them was a semi portable loading dock to be moved with tractor or skid steer with these as the angular beams from the ground to the trailer deck. My truck hauling trailer has hydraulic ramps so the idea was never pursued. Any ideas for a project these could be used for? I don't do much with aluminum and the shape is so odd don't know if I ever will if it's been this long already......Thanks,SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:Whatever you do, don't get rid of them! You'll find an incredibly useful purpose for them shortly after they're gone. I guarantee it.As me how I know that
Reply:Hello Slob, make yourself some "lightweight" saw-horses. You could probably make the stanchions out of steel and bolt the aluminum beams to those and have yourself some strong and light-to-move-around horses. Just a thought. Best regards, Allanaevald
