planishing hammer

Im looking for a good planishing hammer but cant seem to find one anywhere? anyone know of a good online shop? Thanks

Reply:Hand held electric/air, traditional flat faced/large head low crown body hammer, spoon/slapper style?Slappers/spoons easily made from part of an old leaf spring etc. Like conventional body hammers also available commercially. Kennedy and Sykes Pickavant both make nice body hammers. Depends where you are (i'm in the UK so not much help for where to buy if you're in the States) but Tinmantech, Fournier Enterprises, Fay Butler and a bunch of others all sell metalshaping tools. I know Fournier sells Eckold kit (GL2 is the hand held model), not sure what the others have in the way of hand held powered hammers but advise you sit down before pricing the Eckold kit!

Reply:Didn't word my last post too well, companies i mentioned are in the US (based on the majority of members here being in the US). Google 'contourautocraft', Cromwell industrial tools also sell Kennedy body hammers. Sykes Pickavant available from 'Concept tools', and frost.co.uk (they also sell specialist metalshaping tools and restoration products)   Eckold have a UK supplier that'll come up with a quick google

Reply:Well if you're round the corner from a branch of Cromwells then got to pop in and have a look. The Sykes Pickavant kit (used to be at least) slightly better finished (wider range too, i.e. choice of light, medium or heavy hammers in the common styles as well as a bunch of more specialised styles ) but the Kennedy hammers are/were still very good quality and a fair bit cheaper. Can compare prices on the Countour Autocraft site to Cromwells but factor in carriage and i'd probably buy in person unless you were looking to buy a panel beating 'starter kit' (case with 4 dollies and 3 of the most commonly used hammers) in which case the contourautocraft kit is better value- they swap out the pick/round pein hammer for a far more useful straight pein for less than a tenner premium... http://www.contourautocraft.co.uk/hammers-and-dollies.htmHotrodmetal, Tigdamon's in the UK
