I had the Milwaukee version of the portaband. Didn't have the money at the time for a full sized band saw and couldn't see putting out the $250.00 cash for the stand that is made for the Milwaukee. It also helped having some decent scrap around. AS you look at this stand you'll see 1/4" plate with holes punched. That's salvaged material. Same goes with my current welding table. The holes don't interfere with work and let a bunch of the tailings fall through. Couple of more recent pics. Saw after it's been used a while. Reply:The saw has the big black knob in fron for a hand hold. The arm I made is set up to remove that knob and reuse the same allen bolt to bolt the saw to the stand. That was the hard part, curving that for a flush fit, then making the sheet metal sides which act as gussets. Reply:More pics. I guess these two are the newer ones. I'm losing track here.  Attached Images"The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:And a couple more.I've gotten miles and miles of use out of this rig. Altho I can't complain this is not something I'd recommend building unless there is a real need. It takes a lot of care and time getting everything lined up to cut square.  I use an infeed and outfeed stand for long and heavy pieces. This would be better to reside in the back of a truck for an on the job saw rather than every day shop use. I've about killed the poor saw using it as much as I have. Next toy probably will be a full sized band saw, just can't justify it quite yet. As you can see floor space is at a premium for me too.  Pretty cluttered in there. The saw needs new roller bearings and new rubber liners for the drive and idler wheels. Reply:I'd like to build a base for my portaband, but -- oddly -- I don't need the guillotine style setup to make it work like a chop saw.  I'd rather have it hold the thing vertical and have a table for feeding material, preferably with a slot and a miter gauge.    If anyone reading this thread has made one like that, please post a picture.  (My apologies in advance to Sandy for cluttering up his thread.)Jack OlsenMy garage website

Reply:I emailed Troy a while ago.  Unfortunately, his table (which is a pretty good deal, in my opinion) is only compatible with Milwaukees and Dewalts.Jack OlsenMy garage website

Reply:He doesn't think his could be adapted.  So I'm going to have to do something myself.  The portaband is a very useful tool, but I wish it were stationary more often than I'm grateful for it being handheld.  I put it in the vise for a couple of cuts today, in fact.  It's not a good solution, but it points to the usefulness of a base.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:Here's my set up to accomplish what Jack's talking about. This is the stock back guide for my Dewalt, but I'm sure you could make one up like that with your mad skills, Jack. It doesn't have the nice wide platen but suits me just fine for handy little stuff. When I need the big platen I'll get around to fixing my 30" throat Kalamazoo.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]

Reply:Originally Posted by Jack OlsenThanks!  That's just two pieces of metal? Both very cool ideas. I have a table but like the idea of the peice bolted to it and clamping it in a vise. I like this one, I found it on another site, Pirate 4x4.
Reply:Love Google's image search!  I just dragged the above picture into the search box and it pulled up the old pirate4x4 thread.
