OK OK OK I know that a welder buying a welding table is horrible but, I bought this 44"x96"x 1 1/8" thick table for 650, I could never buy that much steel for 650! however when it was delivered the casters were way to small and the thing barley rolls! I did not make him take back because I really wanted it. So I plan to make it alot better but I was wondering, what are the best caster for the job? I want some casters that lock and roll super easy because alot of the time I am working by myself! The table ways right around 1500 poundssyncrowave 250Millermatic 211Fabricator 211iBobcat 250 EFI12VS Extreme24x40 shopSOME OF THE STUFF I HAVE BUILTwww.facebook.com/gowildfabhttp://www.gowildfabrication.com/
Reply:I buy my casters online from Clark Casters. Something that size, if the height won't cause problems, you want as large a diameter caster as you can get. Larger diameter = less rolling resistance. You want brakes on all four of them, and you most likely want 2 rigid and 2 swivel. If you get all 4 swivel, you'll be chasing that table everywhere because it'll have a mind of it's own once it gets moving.I prefer straight steel wheels for anything in my shop. They haven't marked up the concrete much, and I don't have to worry about sparks and spatter melting into them. Also, plan to give it a decent push to get it going. My ironworker is on 6" casters and weighs 2600 lbs - takes a lot to get it rolling and you don't want it picking up much speed 'cuz you aren't stopping it on a dime. But, I can and do move it myself. If your table's 1000 lbs lighter, it shouldn't be too bad to move.EDIT - Nice table, by the way. If you decide you want to build a little light-duty table one day, you still can. But hang onto this one.Last edited by tbone550; 03-28-2014 at 11:09 PM.
Reply:Don't tell him to hang on to that P.O.S.! I'll take it off your hands for what you paid!GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:AHAHAHAHAHAH yea its a real POS and you are such a nice guy to take it off my hands!!!!ok great I will added bigger wheels, they are 2 inch wheels right now and the table is just 35 inches tall, I will look into clark casters right nowsyncrowave 250Millermatic 211Fabricator 211iBobcat 250 EFI12VS Extreme24x40 shopSOME OF THE STUFF I HAVE BUILTwww.facebook.com/gowildfabhttp://www.gowildfabrication.com/

Reply:Watch TSC, Tractor Supply. A month or so ago their month special was 20 buck solid six inch wheels for five bucks. The solids work better for the shop. You can make your own casters with the wheels, just strap on the imagination and jump.life is good
Reply:Might be considered a "cheap" fix but you can get some beefy solid steel wheels from HF. Though their QC isnt the greatest, some of their rollers arent true, center holes cut offset. You could also get casters, and weld in four trailer jacks on the inside of the legs. If you encounter an uneven surface, you can crank down one of the feet to even your table out. Though I dont think a table of this size would have too many balance and wobble issues.
Reply:Check out the SurplusCenter they have steel Casters as well.
Reply:maybe a motorcycle lift http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-H...-/171275889737 and just a floor jack on the other end.

Reply:for about same money spent for casters that suit your needs a couple braces at bottom and a pallet jack and you can roll it easy and when landed it stays there, the pallet jack comes very usefull everywhere, yeah it also uses floor space when not in use...ahhh nothin's perfect.
Reply:Awesome find man!
Reply:I put these on my table. They come in different sizes and have a capacity of 1000 lbs a piece. I like them, they roll good on a smooth surface. Got them from Northern Tool. Nice score on the table!

Reply:If you do up a frame with a pallet jack, do up one end. Make the tubing full rectangular tubing with cut outs in the front. You can lift the table up, move it, drop it down, and the jack has proper leverage (from the tube) it wont just tilt when you lift it. Plus it can just stay under the table on the end. Takes up about the 12x12 or so the rear end takes up.
Reply:I put these on mine. Lifts the table about 1" when cranked down. Get into place and release the wheels, table stays put. Table weighs around 1200#, I bought casters rated for 600# each. So far so good, just acquired table this winter.
Reply:This has to be the best caster set up on a welding table I've seen it's from garage jornal Attached Images
Reply:1 1/8" top! That's an awesome deal! Maybe make some removable casters, Jack it up and slide casters under it and then remove them and it won't budge. Kinda like those furniture moving dollies only heavy duty.
Reply:Abec, that is an awsome set up here is what the wheels look like on mine. Reply:Originally Posted by tbone550They're rated for 1320 lbs per set of 4 casters (your table weighs more than that, empty), and have a total height of 3-1/8", not all of which is the caster wheel itself (making them hard to roll). The wheels look like plastic, which in my experience doesn't last long when you're dealing with hot slag falling on the floor. I don't mean to be a downer, but if it were my table, I wouldn't put those wheels on it.
Reply:Too bad you weren't closer to Cali. I recently saw a bunch of these bad mofo's in the surplus bin at ALCO: No idea on the price or wheel size.
