Hi, I'm new to this site. Been reading alot of stuff about mig welders and the 240V sounds the best but I can't get 240V right now. So I have to stick with 120V. I've been looking at the SP-135 PLUS. I can buy 1 for 536.00. This is at an welding store. I'm new at welding. Watched friend of mine weld with his Lincoln mig he told me it was 240V and he said he would help me out when I get one. I was wondering if the SP 135 PLUS is the BEST out there for 120V.?? Any help would be appreciated. Will be for hobby use. Thanks
Reply:The 140C is the model that replaces the 135P. I would get it instead. Only another $50 or so. It has a better drive mechanism and a better transformer.
Reply:I've used a SP135+ for more than two years now, solid wire/gas and flux core, and have had no problems. I bought it because of the continuously adjustable voltage, which I think makes getting good penetration and preventing burn-through easier for beginners. I agree with bruceb. If you can, spend the extra money for the 140C to get the extra power and design upgrades. Be advised that you will probably need a 120 VAC 30 amp breaker and outlet, and larger wiring from the breaker to the outlet, to run even a SP135+ if you want to weld 0.25 inch, which requires flux core.TeddCoHTP Microcut 400 & Invertig 160DC Smith Dual Guard MD-510 OA Rig Lincoln SP135+ Hobart Stickmate LX 235/160 |
