found a damaged set of Fiskars loppers at a pawn shop. they wanted $10, got it for $7. the blade was all damaged across the center (looked like bad sawtooth). this pair sells new for $22 at HD. i used an old block of copper i had (a thick heat sink from old computer) to back the blade, TIG'd out some beads along the cut edge (quenched in cold water after last bead), and then ground back to shape. saved me a few $$.
Reply:Any pics?GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:I've passed up a few loppers where I saw that. Looked like they were using them as wire cutters! I wonder if they can be heat treated or hardened? What did the grinding sparks look like?
Reply:They look like they were used as wire cutters because that what they were used for.The scumbag scrappers around here that go into houses and strip them clean use them when they do their demo work.Other than that I dont want to crap on your thread, great idea to fix up a set of lopppers.I never thought of that but the next time I see a set at a yard sale that are beat I may pick them up for a spare.
