I am new to this and I am going to get a welder and use it to make bars for bikes and scooters. What welder would be good to use to make these parts. I am looking to spend 200 or 300 dollars. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
Reply:Try the general question part of this forum. As I do not know where you are located its hard to say. Check your local dealers so parts and repairs will be easyer to handle. I think you may be looking for a tig welder for that type of application. I am planning on building a motor from scratch soon and find that is what most fab shops use. A mig should do the job if that is what you are looking to get though. Tig is harder to learn and calls for a steady hand where mig easy a little more forgiving. definitely get a gas welder, will do a much better job for this type of work. As to the money. I couldn't get a welder where I live for the amount you have alloted, even a cheap one. You may be able where you live if its in the US but don't think. I have a miller mig which would do the job noproblem but my tig is a OK one which I plan to upgrade soon. Hope this helps. Reply:I live in new york such as US. I am going to go to the home depot and see what they have but thanks alot.
Reply:to do chromoly your going to have to get a tig mig is not really ideal for chromoly work Also for your price budget I dont mean to sound negative but your not going to get a tig welder for that price ($200-$300) what type of chromoly (thickness) are you looking to do I live in NY as well and Home Depot by me only has mig welders and they dont sell anything that cheapYour best bet is to check craigslist, ebay, even some of the race car sights as well as this one for a used machineI just saw an econotig by miller with all the accessories (foot pedal, tig torch, etc.) and a bottle of gas sell for $600 a few weeks ago you really gotta go out there and hunt around I looked for months before I got my syncrowave 300 machine off ebay for $500 but I had to take a trip to PA to pick it upits hard to come across good deals but theyre out there where in NY are you located??
Reply:You do not HAVE to use TIG to weld chromoly.A large number of off-road suspension manufacturers MIG weld their production suspension components and a very large number of off-road and sand-rail chassis' are MIG welded chromoly.http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:NASCAR Cup frames and cages are all MIG welded ChroMo.
