Pro Mig 140?

I just inherited one of these(Lincoln), anyone know how good they are? Pro's, Con's.
Reply:Thay are excellent 120V small MIG machines.  You'll be very happy if you don't expect too much from it.  Despite what the advertisements say, with a shielding gas and solid wire, you're limited to about 1/8" for full-penetration, single-pass welds, and you can up that to about 3/16" using a flux-cored wire.  Advanced techniques and experience will allow you to do a little more.Do not expect any kind of realistic ability to weld aluminum with it.As with all 120V machines, use a dedicated receptacle from the panel and a heavy extension cord (if one is needed) or you can notice a difference in power output.What projects might you have in mind?Last edited by MAC702; 03-14-2007 at 11:37 AM.
Reply:I do alot of metal sculptures, the only thing I probably would use it for would be some sheet metal work and tacking, anything else I'll just use the old 225 buzz box.
Reply:Then I highly recommend getting a shielding gas cylinder and regulator if you don't already have them.  Especially on sheet metal and sculptures will you really appreciate the cleaner welds.  Use .023" or .030" solid wire.
Reply:Yep - good machine. Get it cleaned out, most people let their welders sit and never blow them out with air. Check all your fittings, tip and nozzle. If your tip is oblong, put another one in, they are cheap. Usually 4 for $3...at least the Tweco style are that price.
