in the market for a tubing bender. i only need it for one project, bending a cage. i know there are several out there that are similar but there has to be a reason to buy one over the others.  whats everyone reccomend and why?
Reply:I would recomend a Pro-tools 105 or a JMR since those are the most popular, have interchangable dies, and will be easiest to sell when your done with it. I have a pro-tools 105 and I like it.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:you can use pro tools dies on a jmr and vice versa?  i didnt know that. thanks for the info
Reply:you can not swap dies between a pro-tools and a jd2 bender.... i own a pro-tools 105 manual bender, dom is easy to bend manually.. there are blueprints floating around of pro-tools and jd2 type benders, if you have access to a mill would be easy to make.. there are also plans you can buy for $20 to make a nice hydraulic bender from a harbor freight air/hydraulic ram, http://www.gottrikes.com/Tube_Bender.htm...  the plans use mostly 2x2 heavy wall tubing, the plans are professionally done and easy to follow.. you need a bandsaw and mill or drillpress and be able to mig weld pretty good... the plans are well worth $20 to just have them..  you still have to buy the dies either way, the dies are pretty pricey..    check on racingjunk.com think i seen a bender on there..Last edited by brucer; 02-02-2011 at 12:04 AM.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:I'd get the JMR.  Their product and their service is second to none.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:I would argue about the customer service from JMR, but the dies from pro-tools can be used on a JMR and cost less and do as nice a job.Ron
Reply:For a one and done that won't break the bank, look at the EZ-Bend from MidAmerican.

Reply:It is a long drawn out story and Dan and Jim would say that I was a fault, however I asked my Snap On dealer to pick up the bender for me along with some dimple dies.  The order was placed around Thanks Giving and I did not receive it till after the 1st of January.  And of course there was the show in Florida that everyone was at that contributed to the 1st delay.  And of course they did charge my Snap on dealer right away when the order was placed.  What I didnt find out till after the fact was that my tool rep also deals with Pro, had I known that I would have gone pro, there was also a subsequent order placed directly with JMR based on info on their web site that turned out to be misleading and since been changed.  I am not one to complain and dont mind paying top dollar for my tools, my wife can attest to that and complain to the high heavens about it, but it is how I put food on the table and I have dealt with the same Snap On dealer for 12 years now, and the whole thing was a mess.
