Morning,Have a Deere 450 that had the tabs for the drawbar (on the rear crossmember) damaged- one had been cut off and the other bent.Piece is 5/8" thick and 3" wide. I put a bottle jack on it and it started turning the crossmember. So, I need to put some heat on it. My little o/a cutting torch setup can't get enough heat in to it.I'm wondering if my torch will handle a rosebud. What size rosebud tip is recommended and I can see if my torch will accommodate it.Or, would a carbon in standard electrode holder work to heat?I have a DialArc 250 AC/DC but don't want to burn it up.Last option, as I need to build one replacement tab, is just torch it off and make two. Thanks for any help,DB
Reply:It will likely be faster to just cut it off and weld two new ones on - that's what I would do anyway.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Is that were a drawbar should be mounted? It seems to me there should be a bolt drawbar on crawler because there is a heck of lot more weight and pull than a rubber tired tractor. I think a 450 JD has about 16,000lbs. drawbar pull or approx. it's weight if I recall. |
