Hello all, I am currently making a chopper trike that I started when I was 12 and so as my knowledge has grown over the past 5 years I realized I could have done a much better job in a lot of areas so I am slowly fixing a few things up but it's the first thing I have ever built so I can't completely start again, anyway I am up to a point where I am going to redo my existing fork setup and install a new chopper/motorcycle headtube that I will machine myself and build from scratch a springer fork. The problem is that I need DOM tubing for the forks, front and rear but it is going to cost me a ridiculous amount to buy 2 meters of 1" and 2 meters of 1.25" DOM tubing so I was wondering if there is any other metal that has the same characteristics? They are strength, nice finish and easily mig welded, Thanks Little_sparky

Reply:DOM really isn't needed if material is sized right. This isn't a race bike. If it was mine, I'd just use plain structural tube. Maybe 1/8" wall at the most.My name's not Jim.... |
