Do you guys get 336 +* argon tanks with this much pressure?

A guy from matheson told me once ur not allowed to fill tanks past 2500 psi for argon. My last bottle was 2600 psi. My gauge is a smith I think it retails for 170$. How much pressure you guys get?

Reply:Hello motolife313, you can end up with a lot of different pressure readings when you hook up your gauge and for many different reasons. For starters, bottles will have different max pressure ratings from the time that they are manufactured. Some will have a higher "over-pressure" rating and this is indicated by how they are stamped. Others know the listing of how this is indicated, I'm sorry I do not, likely they'll chime in here. Another thing to consider is ambient temperature at time of filling. If your bottle has been filled when it is cool out and then set at the dock and you pick it up some time later when the temperature has increased it will read a bit high, if you pick it up when it is colder than when it was filled it will read a bit lower, very common to run into this. I am sure that others will have additional information and with more specifics, but still, all in all you do not have to worry about the 2800 psi that shows up on your gauge. One other possibility is that your gauge is out of calibration and reads a higher pressure than is actually present. I know that you said that it is a high-dollar gauge yet  they can have issues too. Reply:The tank is stamped with a "+" sign after the pressure rating. It is allowed to receive up to 10% overfill if designated.
Reply:The cylinders get hot when filling but 2500 PSI max doesn't make sense considering you can get 4500 PSI cylinders with argon. You have to monitor cylinder temperature when filling so they don't get too hot. There not so hot you can't put your hand on them but you can feel the heat. The place I used to work, I think they filled standard cylinders to 28?? PSI hot and there was a chart that converted the hot pressure to what it would be at room temperature. I think 2640 PSI is a common cylinder pressure rating but if you got a 2500 PSI you'd be doing pretty good. Reply:There are even some cylinders that go to 6000 PSI. I think the 4500 PSI cylinders are chrome-moly to handle the extra pressure. They use a CGA 590 fitting instead of the CGA 580. Mostly used for mix gasses for MIG and dual shield.
Reply:Mine was 2800!! Blew my reg (old and failing) out. I thought it was over psi or dude screwed me. Ive heard that trico wont go beyond 1000 and anything over 800 is considerd full.
