Looking for opinion on two things. Use of bare wire cooled with only C02 on structural steel and use of 110 wire welder on same after galvanized? Steel 1/4 or better. Asking because boss is saying this is okay. Want to see how many agree.

Reply:Well live and learn. I've done a little structural steel work, only time I've ever seen a 110 wire welder, was at Lowes, or Home Depot. Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Ok, now tell us it's a Harbor Freight welding machine too. I can see the metal just laying on the galvanized if any even sticks. You would do better with stick 6010 5P and burning through the galvanized. Hope the owner has insurance.

Reply:Whats wrong with you guys? Here in the "Real world" we only use 110V HF migs. Don't keep my 7018 in an oven either. Sometimes I even grind with no guard or PPE. Not everyone can have a "perfect" welding environment or even good fitup/clean steel. Just run a 16G extension cord, crank that machine to HOT and really burn it in. Reply:Yer boss might be using the wrong terminology but if he is talking about CO2 as a shielding gas then that is acceptable.110 welder on galvy- certainly not 1/4" but perhaps on thinner material is what he is talking about.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:Use the CO2 to cool the beer JB weld to hold it together and smooth it out for the white wash.
