After buying a HF and Lowes tri-square only to find out that they weren't true.I have been trying to find a older used Starret off eBay for around $25 but I have not seen any trisquare head and blades.Anyone have any suggestions for a good quality true tri-square that will last a while being inexpensive?I have found this one.  How ever I have not found much info on its quality.http://cgi.ebay.com/VTG-TRI-SQUARE-T...item230e191870The head looks like its good but the blade could probably be replaced.
Reply:Starret squares are by far a good quality brand square. There are others as well. A hardened ruler is usually a good sign of a good quality square.Im looking at buying this set...Magnum 4pc Combination Square Set Last edited by oxygen454; 02-09-2011 at 01:51 AM.
Reply:Go to:www.plazamachinery.comLook at the tooling listed. The owner, Joe Bergamo, probably has a lot of stuff that isn't listed. No affiliation, other than I've purchased some lathe & mill tooling from him in the past. Hope this helps. I do have the Starrett model and love it.
Reply:If you are looking for good quality for decent bucks look at General, Stanley or Craftsman.Better quality would be SPI and such from MSC or McMaster Carr.Best quality would be Starrett, Brown&Sharpe or Mitutoyo (the big difference is a hardened head and hardened engraved scales)These are called "combination squares" google it that way & go to town!Matt
Reply:Also take a look at the old Lufkins. I have the hardened 3-head set in Starrett and a smaller 6" set in Lufkin. Probably $80-$90 for both off eBay.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:How good are Fisher brands?I was able to find a 12 inch blade, square, protractor and center finder for $40I purchased it because I needed a good one quick and the Magnum one looked really nice, but would have cost me around $90 total.

Reply:The Magnum 4 pc is a Chinese made square set? I did not know that. I still have to go pick it up. I keep welding splatter far away from my good tools. I see the Magnum in sale... was out of stock last time I was at KMS.Last edited by oxygen454; 02-10-2011 at 11:56 PM.
