Is a modern inverter arc welder capable of flux wire feed by using a spool gun?  I know there will be connector and power fittings to deal with.  Thanks - Jerry

Reply:I stated flux wire to make the question simple.  I didn't want anyone spending time on gas and connections and valves and such.  I want to know if the form of the ?wave/pulse/signal...? in the current designed to arc weld is the same as one designed to MIG weld.Ken
Reply:Hello Ken, a machine designed to run wire will be CV (constant voltage), the machines that work for SMAW and TIG are CC (constant current), there are some very different characteristics that these types of machines possess that make them suited for their intended purpose. Try using the search function of the forum to find where this is explained in more detail. In short however, running wire with a CC type power source requires special provisions in the way of a feeder and it also limits some of the wire feed capabilities generally readily provided by a CV power source.
