Reply:Never mind the trailblazer will run the fridge and lights just dandy, really only need the critical stuff on backup. Guys want prime power during an outage but forget that means they'll burn a whole LOT more fuel

Reply:If he has propane on his property, a propane generator would make alot of sense.Funny thing is, he didn't need all the welding stuff and could easily have bought a brand new Bobcat for less money than he paid for the used machine with the accessories he had no use for...I got a kick out of the 'big black cords' comment too! Reply:Originally Posted by jwormanActually, I think getting a LP rig is the best thing he did.  You buy the LP BEFORE the outage!  LP stores for a very long time!  10 years and more is not problem.  Gasoline and diesel turns to gunk if you don't use them in a fairly short time.  Even if you treat the gasoline with staybil, it won't last for years.  In addition, you don't have to worry about the carburetor gunking up from not starting it for a year or more.   I have a small LP generator.  I didn't start it for over 3 years.  I pushed the prime button after hooking a LP cly to it, and it started on the first pull.  I think my luck with gasoline would have been much different.I bought a LP bobcat not too long ago, just for the emergency aspect.  I'll weld a little with it, when the opportunity comes up,  but it is mostly a standby unit for the house and well.  My house runs on Nat gas, but you can bet we have a few hundred gallons of LP, just in case.
