Well the ol inspector made a visit today for our annual testing, only 4 tests this year! we decided to drop the stainless and mild to stainless tickets as we haven't used them this past year, wooh!. SO on the docket are straight F3/F4, 2.25 chromoly,, Inconel, and hastalloy. So far was able to get done our heavy wall chrome test yesterday, and the chrome and carbon today. Inspector decided this year to let us weld out the coupons and then cut out the weld on the band saw into rings so he can take those in for xray..... rather than lugging 100lbs of coupons around. Sorry for the not so great pictures, kind of an after thought after the test started only had my phone. Either way thus far were 3 for 3 ! for those who are interested the heavy wall test allows us to do header work in the boiler. Attached Images

Reply:you are right 7A it has been a while indeed! Havent been upto much interesting since the knife build at Christmas. Hope all is well friend!DUBL- the Inconel is alright.... its not my favorite by any means quite heat sensitive while welding.... more of a pain than anything! Doc - It took a full 8hrs of welding, with a couple interpass temp breaks..... enough to get some coffee into me! 2" ID 1-3/16" wall thickness. Tig root, ( two ) 3/32 9018-B3 hot pass's, and then 1/8 the rest of the way out.thankyou for all the kind comments fellas! been a tiring couple of days for sure! is it time for holidays at the lake yet?!?!?

Reply:oldsparks- thank you! i most certainly enjoy my work, something new every day, and as far as the boiler and affiliated equipment go never the same "comfortable" position so always a nice challenge to complete a nice xray quality weld. I did some line work in my earlier days and ended up moving on to the power station boiler welding. I must say for the first bit it was enjoyable welding pipeline with the buddies but it wasn't too long after i became bored and 'un-challenged", same thing every day, same joint, same thickness, run it as fast as you can blah blah.  From my perspective from a pipe welding stand point downhand pipeline welding is quite easy however i wont take away from the guys who work on the line, you STILL have to know what your doing to make it shoot AND look classy, the years ive spent in the boiler i wouldn't trade for the world!
