New the forum so I thought I'd share.  This is my first project after learning to gas weld.  I made the table top from black walnut (butcher block style) for my 1950's german made Pfaff industrial walking foot upholstery machine and brass brazed the legs with 1-1/4" square stock.  Gave it an "industrial brushed" finish and clear coated it.  Pretty happy with how it turned out and really enjoyed the process.  Just thought I'd share.  Thanks! Reply:Beautiful work, and a great machine...West German made Pfaff 545 or 145?  I have a WG Pfaff 545 H4 and a WG Pfaff 239.How did you do the machine inlet?  Did you have a template to work off of (I need to make new tops for both of my tables but have been struggling a bit with how to go about inletting for the machines)?--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:Thanks guys!  Appreciate the compliments and encouragement.@wintermute - that particular machine is a 145-H4.  I still have it and love it but have since 'upgraded' to a near mint condition West German made 545-H3.  I also have a couple Pfaff 130s, Pfaff 134, Adler 267 and Adler 189A.  The german machines are simply the best from that era.  For the cutout I just looked at a diagram from an old manual that showed the dimensions of the table.  I think it was an old Brother walking foot machine.  I drew everything out in pencil and did a rough cut using a jig saw.  Then I went through and cleaned everything up with a router.  The Corners need to be done in 2 or 3 stages.  Here's a photo so you can see what I'm talking about. This particular table was done in hard maple. Here's the diagram I used.  The only thing that is different for the pfaff is the width of the cutout.  The width should be 435mm not the 519.5 shown.
Reply:Awsome .  I'll have to see if I can find some reasonable diagram that's close for both of mine.  Now, what do you make with them?  Any pictures of your sewing projects (it's kinda like welding )?--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:This last Christmas I sewed up a throw rug for my daughter in laws bed side.  I made it out of a Coyote skin fur coat with padding under that and a nice piece of bright upholstery on the bottom to trim the edge and to keep it together.  It is a large elliptical shape She loves it.  Mac
