http://www.rhinosafe.com/I saw a couple of these safes and toolboxes at a store.  I think they look really cool.  I doubt the rivets are structural.  Do you think they are plug welded on the back side of each of the decorative "skins"?I have been thinking about making some industrial type furniture and would like to add these rivets as an accent feature. Thanks in advance for the answers.Angus
Reply:Cool looking line of safes.  Believe you are correct.  Faux 'rivets' for effect which are plug welded on the back side.  Recently commissioned to design/build 4ea retro/industrial bar stools for a client.  Adding faux rivets to the gussets.  Image shows a similar concept of the build.  Seat will be 1-1/4" maple and structural elements will be angle/flat bar HRS.  Distressed look, patina'd, and clear coated.  Indoor application. Reply:Angus-in-WyomingUp close the faux safe is really cheesy. For faux starter parts . . .http://www.blacksmithbolt.com/dbotosThanx for the Ballard Forge Link, there is no substitute for gold.Opus
Reply:Some of these kind of things are done from the front into a blind (or through) hole with drive rivets.
Reply:I've made several items with faux rivets. I used carriage bolts and cut them to the length of the thickness of the materials that they were going through. Then, I'd tig (fuse) the back side.If the bolt head has some embossing on it, I'd sand the embossing off.Rich

Reply:A pneumatic needle scaler and a torch produce excellent distressing. I've used rivets on stuff for decoration. Hit them with a light ball peen and the scaler to make them look aged.
Reply:Thanks for all of the suggestions!  Now I need to come up with a fixture to cut a bunch of rivets to size in the bandsaw.  Thanks again.
