Got in this pump jack saddle bearing that was beyond saving. Had to figure out a way to copying it by welding pieces together. Reply:This will never work. You need to search the internet and find a brand new one.

Reply:Looks good. Likely will last longer than the original. Was this on a running pump jack? The seals failed and washed out the grease? Do the use bushings or bearings. Not being in Texas... I don't see very many pump jacks. I'm just curious... never know... I might need to build one... when I might strike oil in my backyard... like the guys on tv.

Reply:Wayne, not trying to confront you as you're hella smart when it comes to this stuff, but I always thought the purpose of a bushing was to reduce wear on a shaft, or provide a weak link so to speak. So when you say nylatron will outlast a shaft, I have to ask for an explanation....non confrontational of course, just trying to learn.Sent from my XT907 using TapatalkLincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
Reply:Good job, Wayne!! Some just never realize grease is an extremely cheap maintenance item. How many tubes of grease could have been bought for the cost of this job?? Reply:I missed this the first time around. Nice work! Did that bottom plate want to warp after you welded it to the tube gussets above it? Clamp and keep it flat or mill it flat after?
Reply:Thanks.Yes those plates definitely want to warp. The only way is to bend the plate the other way before starting. In this case there was about 1/8" upward bow in the middle where the shaft goes across. I made three passes and it was already slightly the other way. So I shimmed the middle, and clamped both ends to pull it back a little. Then tacked the gussets in place to hold it. I then welded out the gussets. It's still not perfectly flat but it's close enough that bolts will pull it tight to the I beam that it bolts to. If they're to bad then I'll use a shaper to flatten them after building. But I've not had to do that for a long time once I got the procedure down.Last edited by irish fixit; 04-19-2014 at 10:31 AM.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm |
