I have a mid-80's 225 with the briggs IC motor. The bearing on the back of the generator is going out. How on earth do I get that thing out of there. I there some king of special puller to get that bearing out? Or, do I have to pull the generator off the motor? In that case does anybody know where to find a service manual on the web. I really don't want to try and figure out where all those wires go.
Reply:I think you have to pull the back of the generator off.  The armature is held onto the engine with a long bolt and on a taper.  Pull the housing first, then you should be able to use a puller to get the bearing with the arm still attached to the motor.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Let me be sure I understand. Pull the stator leaving the armature on the engine. Then pull the bearing off the armature.Does anybody have a wiring diagram? The end of the rotor shaft has threads in it. These seem to be metric. Does any body know the size. I assume they are used to press the fan and probably the bearing back on.Last edited by Nerd3D; 06-03-2007 at 04:33 PM.
Reply:The lincoln web site has the manuals in down loadable form.  When I took mine apart I unbolted the engine and unbolted the brushes.  unhook the engine wires and label them. remove bolt from end of armature and pry the engine loose from the frame.  the bearing should come out with the armature and then use a puller or drive it off with a punch and install new one back on the shaft.  I got mine at napa.  The hardest part was getting the fan back on.    I think the shaft uses 9/16 fine thread bolt, but might be wrong
Reply:It's not fine thread. I can see that it's course thread and the best I can tell it's about 2mm pitch. It's pretty hard to see the thread gauge in there. The sizes it's not:9/16 - 125/8 - 1114mm - 1.5014mm - 2.0016mm - 2.00What's left? The root diameter of the thread is roughly 13mm or 1/2"Last edited by Nerd3D; 06-06-2007 at 07:05 PM.
